Setting the Direction for Growth for our Programs

The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Restoration  is looking for a part-time, 12 hours per week, Religious Education Director. We have a congregation of  100 members.  We are seeking someone with a UU background or who is sympathetic with the liberal religious principles.    Please see our website at www.uurestoration.us

Our congregation is made up of people of diverse age groups, racial backgrounds, religious backgrounds, and orientations.   We are a Welcoming congregation.  The Sunday School program currently serves approximately 20 children who range in age from toddlers to teens divided into four groups by age range.  We have about 20 adult volunteers with a range of RE teaching experience.  An important goal for this year is to significantly grow the population of children at UUCR.

The starting date would be mid-August, 2008. Resumes will be accepted until the job is filled.

We are seeking a well-organized, self-starting leader to publicize existing activities and grow the RE program by adding new family-friendly activities that would attract visitors from the neighborhood. A strong candidate would be able to:

   - Oversee the Sunday morning program, working amiably with children, adult volunteers and professional church staff.

   - Recruit and train volunteers from the Congregation, including creating a calendar of coverage for each age group and occasionally filling in gaps in the scheduled instruction.

   - Work with the RE committee, to set policy, curriculum, set goals and celebrate successes.

   - Work with church ministries and lay leaders to represent children's interest in congregational life and worship. Candidate must speak up at meetings, take notes, follow through with tasks and be accountable for time spent on tasks.

   - Maintain resources, supplies, and records including attendance systems

  -  Effectively publicize the RE program to our members and the community

Compensation package is $16 - 18/hour for up to 12 hours a week from mid-Aug. to mid-June.  We are located in a multicultural residential neighborhood served by public transit and SEPTA regional rail.
