Part-Time Sexton – UU Church of Silver Spring, MD

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring, MD seeks a reliable, part-time Sexton.  Work includes: janitorial cleaning duties, interior and exterior facility maintenance, (lawn care, snow/ice removal, minor maintenance projects etc.), set-up and clean-up for Church Events and weekly reporting to Church Administrator.  Individual will maintain and care for buildings and property.  Must work Sundays.  Great job environment.  Excellent benefits.

The Sexton reports to the Church Administrator.  Salary range is $11.50-$15.00 based on experience.  Some flexibility in scheduling work hours. 

The Sexton works with the Property Chair to identify long-term issues needing attention, such as furnace replacement, roof leaks and painting.  Assist in developing annual Property budget.

Job Requirements

1. Perform minor maintenance projects (requires plumbing and carpentry skills).
2. Good communication skills. Must read, write and speak English.
3. Ability to be contacted and come to the church on short notice for emergency evaluation and fixing of problems during off hours. 
4. Must be able to work Sundays.
5. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other staff and church members, and to implement and complete work assignments.
6. Great opportunity for additional hours/enhanced pay staffing/monitoring functions held by outside renters. This includes set-up and clean-up for these events (weddings, parties, meetings etc.).
